LGBTIQA+ Microbiology Network

The LGBTQIA+ Microbiology Network launched in 2022 and made sub-launches at the 2022 ASM national conference in Sydney and the 2022 AusME conference in Melbourne. Convened by Dr. Heema Vyas (heema.vyas@sydney.edu.au) and Dr. Maurizio Labbate (maurizio.labbate@gmail.com), the network aims to facilitate engagement within the LGBTQIA+ microbiology community and their allies and, to showcase their research. The network is committed to diversity and welcomes all people to join us in this unique endeavour!

In May 2023, we showcased the research of Prof. Cynthia Whitchurch (Quadram Institute) in our “LGBTQIA+ Microbiology Network Presents” series in a presentation entitled “Morphing Microbes: Understanding and exploiting shapeshifting in Pseudomonas aeruginosa” and have plans to showcase another prominent microbiologist later in the year. A social event is also in the works!

We are looking for speakers and ideas for discussion circles or workshops so please reach out to either Heema or Maurizio.
